The last word of the TRUST acronym (Taking Refuge Under (His) Sovereign Truth) was TRUTH! I knew when I got “trust” that truth was next! These two words are definitely, inherently connected! According to an online dictionary, “truth” is an obvious, accepted, or verifiable fact or reality. This dictionary also said that this word is often capitalized in a spiritual definition, meaning “a transcendent fundamental or spiritual reality.” By this definition, it’s safe to say that something that is “truth” (or Truth) can also be said to be safely relied upon…or trusted. Using these definitions, we know that TRUTH is absolute, pure, unchanging, constant, a hedge, protective, right in front of us, and comforting.
Let’s unpack this a little bit…and where better to go to unpack a word, than in the Word? I (Jesus) am the way, the Truth, and the life. Nobody comes to the Father, except through me (John 14:6). You will know the truth (Truth), and the truth will set you free (John 8:32). The very essence of His Word is truth (Psalm119:160). Teach me your ways, oh Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you (Psalm 86:11). For the Word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything He does. (Psalm 33:4).
You see, when we read, know and rest in the truths of His Word, our trust in Him can’t help but grow! They go hand in hand!
So, how do we do this? Well, it just so happens that He also gave me an acronym for truth! We grow in trusting, and in truth by…
T—Trusting Jesus
R—Resting in His promises
U—Understanding His precepts
T—Testifying to His goodness
H—Hearing His voice
The last “T” in “trust” was “truth,” and the first “T” in “truth” is “trust”! Wow! God continues to amaze me in the revelations He can open within our hearts! I hadn’t noticed the connection until I started to type the TRUTH acronym!
Lord, we thank you for your Truth…the truths that you have hidden for us in your Word to be released into our hearts, and the Truth who is Jesus, living in our hearts! We thank you for the joy and privilege of knowing you and trusting you, of being called by your Name! We thank you for the freedom that you died to buy for us! We thank you for the peace you left to rule in our hearts, and we pray that each day we would grow in living in that peace! We pray for the transformation of our minds that you promise when we are willing to commit to your Word and its commands! Lord, may our hearts be soft and pliable and turned, daily, to fix on you! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
I posted a different video of this song, yesterday, on my Facebook page, but I felt like I was supposed to link to this version of it, in the blog post! I love how the scriptures and pictures so beautifully connect to the lines of the song! I don’t know the person who did the video, but they captured the essence of the song, beautifully!
