So, as many of you know, I am currently writing a book. It is a devotional, and it will have 260 entries when it’s all said and done…so I haven’t been blogging much. However, He’s been giving me LOTS of material lately, (including titles and some content for TWO MORE books after this one) and today He told me…just write every day! I think that’s “God-code” for “Hold onto your socks sister! I’m about to reveal so much stuff to you, it ain’t all gonna fit in one tidy container!”
As I was driving, today, “Fear, He is a Liar” was playing. I really like this song, as fear is one of the things I deal with frequently, and this song is a great reminder! (Please hear me, this is NOT negative against this song at all! I still love the song, and it ministers deeply to me!) However, today (I’ve never noticed it before), I had a check in my spirit when he sang, “Cast your fear in the fire.” I was a bit surprised by this feeling, and I questioned it to Him.
And this is what came to me. Fear is not mine. I, as a believer, do not have to own fear! What do I mean, you ask? Let me explain. Fear is a tactic of the enemy! It is a trick, as it’s often unfounded. It is a “gift” from the enemy! And those are not gifts we want! The enemy is a liar…if his mouth is moving, don’t believe him!
Here is what the Word says…
James 1:17…Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
2 Timothy 1:7 (my mother-in-law’s VERY favorite verse to quote to us!) says “For I have not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
Get this! The gifts God gives are perfect, and they bless His children. The second verse says that He didn’t give us fear! He did give us power, love, and a sound mind. Therefore, we don’t have to be slaves to fear!
Then, this afternoon, there was a live interview with Francesca Battistelli. She was talking about being a mom of 4 little kids and trying to balance mom-life with touring-life. The interviewer asked her about mom-guilt, and she went into a spiel about how Satan uses stuff like fear, anxiety, and GUILT to hold us captive, but we don’t have to allow it to have control! This song is very tongue in cheek, and so totally spot-on about what our attitude should be about fear…and all the emotions that drag us down!
Finally, sometimes, we just need reminded who we are and WHOSE we are! My friend, if you are a Christ follower, you have all you need to live the live He’s designed for you, fulfill your purposes, be free from binding emotions and past failures, and walk boldly forward into whatever He is calling you to do!
Lord, we thank you that we are yours! We thank you for the freedom you want us to have, and ask that you open our eyes to lies and truths and purposes…in your Word and in personal time spent with you. Help us throw off emotions, sins, and struggles and the control they’ve had over us! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
