Kool-Aid

Um…yes, you read that correctly…Kool-Aid!  Clearly, though still based on a single word, this post is a little different!  This one is not specifically a topical word study from scripture.  As far as I’m aware, Kool-Aid is not mentioned in the Bible!  However, as I was praying in the still of the early morning, God whispered this strange word to me quite clearly, as He had the other words!  Then, He began to unravel it for me!   (He is on a ROLL with these blog posts!  They are coming fast and furious!)

He gave me two mental pictures…a pitcher of Kool-Aid and a bottle of homemade salad dressing.  Ponder those images for a moment.  Once you dissolve the sugar in the water, Kool-Aid is Kool-Aid.  It stays a unit…the sugar becomes part of the water. Nothing else needs to be done…except for drinking it! Scientifically speaking, Kool-Aid is a solution…one part dissolves into the other, absorbed, becoming one substance.  Homemade vinegar and oil salad dressing, though, for example, is a mixture.  The two parts mix together, but they are still two separate substances.  If it sits in the fridge for a few days, you see two separate layers…the vinegar and the oil.  Then, you just shake it back up, and it mixes back together.

So, “what in the world is this lady talking about?” you may be asking.  Isn’t this a devotional reading?  Yep…bear with me.  God clearly spoke to me that He wants us, as believers, to be Kool-Aid!  He wants us to be connected to Him in every way on every day, in every facet of our lives, in every moment, walking intimately with Him through this life…us in Him, and Him in us!  He doesn’t want to be in some parts of our lives but excluded from others.  He doesn’t want us to be walking bottles of salad dressing…needing to be shaken up before we look to Him for help!  To offer a play on this word, He wants to be our “solution” to every situation we face!

The Bible doesn’t mention Kool-Aid, per se, but it definitely supports this idea!

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you.  For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.  Yes, I am the vine, and you are the branches.  Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.  For apart from me, you can do nothing.  But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!  When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples.  This brings great glory to my Father.”  John 15:4-5,7.  Other translations of verse 4 say, “Abide in me, and I will abide in you.”  Abiding in means to dwell or exist together!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”  Proverbs 3:5-6.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3.

Again, as in all the words God has had me fleshing out, it’s intentional!  According to these verses, we have to decide to…remain or abide, trust, seek, and commit!  THEN, we will walk with Him in one accord.

So my challenge to us, today, is to BE the Kool-Aid, my friends!  Abide in Jesus, that He may abide in us and direct every moment of our lives!

Lord, we thank you for this revelation that you want to use to transform us!  Thank you for the picture of what you want our lives to be.  Lord, help us every day to guard our hearts and minds from being separated from you, like salad dressing in the refrigerator, waiting to be shaken.  Help us take every thought captive to you, to be led by your Spirit and walk in your truth.  Help us be like Kool-Aid, so intimately connected to you that we…and the world…can’t tell where we end and you begin.  Help us be one with you, to walk in the peace and victory that you died to give us!  In Jesus’ name, Amen!
