Guide my Feet

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”  (Isaiah 52:7).

Once again, God has led me to an under-studied word.  Let’s face it: we don’t think about feet very often.  The Bible speaks MUCH about feet!  It talks about being at God’s feet, laying ourselves and our burdens at His feet, the safety of our feet, going, standing, standing up, washing, protecting, etc.  For today, our focus is on how we can PRAY for our feet and for the feet of our families.

One thing that struck me is although I found many things about feet that are worth praying for, I also found promises about feet that are already ours. The biggest one to bring peace to my heart is the promise of God’s protection.  He promises to protect our feet so that they don’t slip and keep them from being injured by a stone.

In the verses about putting on God’s armor, His Word speaks of clothing ourselves with a readiness to preach the gospel, and how we should put on the gospel of peace as shoes on our feet.  I had never thought much about this concept.  If we are to put on the full armor of God (an intentional covering of ourselves with the protections He has promised us), we must clothe our feet with the good news of the gospel!  Therefore, if we intentionally place it on our feet, it goes with us.  We will carry it with us wherever we go, and we should focus on sharing it with others!

Here are some ways to pray over feet

  • that He would show us where He wants us to go to share His gospel of peace.
  • that we would be willing to go whereever He sends us.
  • that we would stand still when necessary, to wait for Him to show up.
  • that we would stand up for the gospel and for those in need.
  • that we would be intentional about sitting at His feet, and receiving the rest He promises us, there.
  • that we would be intentional about laying our burdens at His feet.
  • that we would use the armor of God and the weapon of His Word to keep the enemy under our feet!
  • that we would “wash the feet” of those around us by having the heart of a servant.

Lord, we praise you for wisdom about our feet.  Thank you for our feet.  Help us to go, stay, stand up, sit at your feet, lay our burdens at your feet, and wash the feet of others as we serve you each day. Help us receive in our spirits what you are showing us about the importance of feet. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
