Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone (Colossians 4:6).
Sometimes, no matter how much God teaches me, I am amazed at how much He teaches me! There are SO MANY verses about mouths, tongues, and words in the Bible! This is another word that could go in multiple directions!
Most of the prayer points God gave me refer to our words. However, here are a few prayer points for the eating job of our mouths! Lord, help my mouth to…
- desire healthy, nourishing food
- seek to eat for nutrition and not for unhealthy reasons such as emotional fulfillment, guilt, or stress-eating.
- have and maintain healthy teeth
Now for our words! Our words have SUCH incredible power! So often, when we hear that fact, we tend to focus on negative words. However, we must consider the consequences of negative words but focus our attention on using positive words. After all, “As a man speaks, so is he!” So, with these ideas in mind, here are some things we can pray over ourselves and our families!
Lord, please help my mouth to…
- engage my mind before blurting out something I’ll regret
- speak wise words, not foolish ones
- never speak from an attitude of anger, rage, or malice
- not grumble, complain, argue, or gossip
- not praise myself; praise God instead
- refrain from speaking lies
- speak the truth in love
- speak gently
- speak what the Lord asks you to speak to others
- speak fitting words
- speak words that build others up
- speak words that spur others on to love and good works
- be compelled to tell of God’s faithfulness, provision, and good works
- speak words that are acceptable in God’s sight
- encourage others
- draw others to God
Lord, Jesus, I pray that you would guard our mouths. Help us become good stewards of our words. Teach us to care for others by carefully choosing which words to speak and which ones to hold back! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
