D…is for Delight

The word “delight” means simply…to please someone greatly!

Think of a tiny child eating their first piece of birthday cake, buried to their elbows in their smash cake,  with frosting and cake crumbs in their hair, and a blissful smile on their face!  Think of opening that one thing you’ve always wanted, on your birthday or Christmas!  Think of the first day of summer vacation and the excitement that brings!

Delight is intense joy!  Did you know that God talks about “delight” in His Word, the Bible? He says that He wants us to delight in Him. Psalm 37:23 says, “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”  He wants us to think about Him more than we think about anything else in the World, so that we can hear Him speak to us, and so His will can be done in our lives!

And get this, my friends!  He also delights in us!  Zephaniah 3:17 says that He takes great delight in us, will quiet us with His love, and rejoices over us with singing!  The creator of the universe loves you so much that His love quiets us, and He sings over us!  That is so exciting!  You know how comforting it is when your mom sings to you?  Jesus sings over you, too!  Wow!

Lord, thank you for intense joy!  Thank you for experiences that bring delight in our lives!  Thank you for telling us that focusing on You and on your Word will bring us joy!  Thank you for loving us so much that spending time with us brings You intense joy!  Help us remember these truths!  In Jesus’ name, Amen!

And here are a couple of songs for you to sing to remind you of God’s love for us, our love for Him, and the joy that love brings!
