Come (to me)

But the disciples rebuked them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” … But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  Matthew 19:14

What do you think of when you hear the word “come”?  I am a mom, and I think of it as a command.  When does your mom tell you to come?  Maybe she has a snack, or it’s time to eat, or go to bed, or take a bath.  Or maybe you’re in trouble…that’s possible, too.  But…moms call their kids for a reason.  Usually, it has to do with protecting them…like calling you in out of a thunder storm or telling you to get out of the road…or with providing for you…like giving you a snack or a bath.

You see, Jesus also tells us to come to Him…and He also has a reason for telling us!  He wants us to come close to Him so He can come close to us.  He wants to give us life in heaven with Him, some day.  He wants to give us peace, and truth, and life with Him!

So, HOW do we “come to Jesus”?  We do this by reading His Word, the Bible.  He tells us in His Word that He will make it come alive to us, if we commit ourselves to reading it!  (There are lots of kids’ devotional books made just for you, to help you come closer to Jesus!)  We do this by worshiping and singing praises to Him.  (There are LOTS of cool kids’ songs about Jesus!  I’ll bet your parents will help you find some!)  We also do this through prayer.  Prayer is simply talking to Jesus, like you would to your mom or to your best friend!  He is ALWAYS there, waiting for you to talk to Him, ALWAYS ready to listen to you and take care of you!

Lord, Jesus, I lift up all of my young readers, today!  I pray that you would help them understand the importance of coming to you!  Help them learn to pray and trust you!  Help them to read and understand your Word, the Bible!  Please take care of them and their families!  In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Sing this catchy song as a reminder to stay close to Jesus!
