A is for Abundant

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.  John 10:10

ABUNDANT: (adj.) Existing or available in large quantities; plentiful; more than enough.

Until yesterday, I confess, I have been very short-sighted about this word.  I guess when I think “abundant,” I tend to think material possessions, money, etc.  But…just like He has done with every other word He has given me, God is opening my eyes to much more!  As it turns out, there are many things that He promises to give us abundantly…and they aren’t “things”!

So what does God’s Word say about what He gives abundantly?  I’m glad you asked!  Here’s what He is showing me!

Blessings:  And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Cor. 9:8)

Comfort:  Praise be to the God and Father of our LORD Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves received. (2 Cor. 1:3-4)

Faith:  He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.”  (Luke 17:6)

Grace:  But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  (2Cor. 12:9)

Mercy:  We are not consumed for His mercies never fail.  They are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Peace:  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  (Phil. 4:7)

Strength: I can do all things through him who gives me strength.  (Phil. 4:13)
Wisdom:  If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)
You see, all of God’s promises are “yea and amen,” and He fulfills His promises to us!  His promises are big and varied.  He promises to meet our needs in many areas!  He doesn’t promise us to be comfortable, but He does promise we will be comforted.  When you begin to waver, go back and read these verses.  Sometimes we need to remind the enemy…and our own weary souls and minds…how big our God is!
Lord, thank you for providing for all of our needs…even when we don’t feel you, or sense you, or see you, or even know what our needs are!  Help us be mindful of you…that you are big enough, strong enough, wise enough, and powerful enough to handle Anything that comes our way!  Thank you for being a God of abundance and provision!  In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Here is one more verse to chew on as you walk away, today…
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. (Eph. 3:20)
