Whatever you find to do with your hands, do it with all your might (Ecclesiastes 9:10).
We are told to bless, love, and encourage each other. Be the hands and feet of Jesus. Serve the Lord with gladness. Do everything without grumbling or complaining. Live to glorify God. We are also told to never tire of doing good. Let’s face it, most of the things we do, we do with our hands.
I write from the vantage point of a mom because I am still in the thick of mothering. As moms, we know about doing. Our hands are always busy! I know for myself, though, I can get caught up in doing and yet not doing it out of love or without grumbling and complaining.
Pray for Your Hands
I’ve spoken before about how my mind weaves around letters and words. I structure my daily prayers around words that pertain to the first letter of that day of the week. For example, on Wednesdays, I pray over “the work of our hands.” Here are some prayer points for hands…
- our efforts at work and at home.
- for us to do the work He has called us to do.
- that our work would honor God.
- that God would be with us as we parent, giving us grace, wisdom, and creativity for the journey.
- that He would help us focus on service and worship as we carry out the tasks of running our homes.
- that we would perceive every work (ministry, job, task, etc.) God asks us to do and do it willingly.
- that we would be willing servants of Christ and others.
- that God would bless the work to which He called our spouse, children, siblings, grandchildren, etc. If our children are young, we can pray God would clearly reveal His purposes for their lives.
- that God would help our children grow in godliness and kindness and learn to serve God, with their hands.
- that He would cause us to be mindful that we are the work of His hands and we are His masterpiece.
Lord, Jesus, thank you for our hands, and thank you for making us with yours! Help us to be your willing servants in our homes, families, and workplaces. Help us to carry the gospel and to serve others in your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
