When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Have you ever seen baby ducklings, following their mama? Wherever that mama duck goes…through tall weeds, across a busy road, by a loud dog, into a muddy pond, or wherever…those baby ducks follow her because they know she will take care of them and keep them safe.
Have you ever seen a group of preschool children on a field trip, with their teacher? Often, the teacher will bring a long rope. She is the leader, at the front of the line. She holds the front of the rope, and each child lines up behind her, holding on to the rope. As long as the children hang on to the rope, they will be safe, and nobody will be lost.
That’s exactly how it is with following Jesus! As long as we follow Him…by reading His Word for ourselves, praying to Him, and keeping our eyes on Him…He will guide us! Just like the preschoolers with the rope, we can choose to walk away from His guiding hand and from His protection. However, as long as we stay close to Him, He promises to ALWAYS (no matter what happens) be right where we are!
Jesus, thank you for loving me and keeping me safe. Help me, every single day, to choose to follow you so you can guide me and protect me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
