Devoted to Jesus: From A to Z

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.  Psalm119:11

This blog was born in January of this year.  At that time, I didn’t know what shape it would take, but God has been giving me single words and asking me to dig deeper into the implications of these words, in the lives of  believers.  This morning, as I lay thinking in the quiet darkness, I felt a new plan taking shape…and today, the next adventure begins!

I live my life in compartments and categories.  I like to have a day each week for tasks like shopping, planning menus, meal prep tasks, different kinds of laundry, household tasks, etc.  That’s just how I roll.  Also, I’ve noticed that I think with letters.  I often understand new concepts based on what letter they start with.  I’ve noticed that many of the sins and struggles that plague my life, for example, start with “D.”  Maybe because “devil” starts with D?  I don’t know.  My prayer life is also compartmentalized (though admittedly, I often struggle to pull it off faithfully) by letter.  The categories of topics that I pray each day correspond to the beginning letter of that day of the week.

We were a homeschooling family for well over a decade, and I taught my girls by focusing on a letter each week.  I remember looking at our oldest daughter when she was 18 months old, panicked, thinking…”There is SO much to teach her!  And I only have 16 and 1/2 more years!”  Thus was born our letter a week curriculum.  This “letter a week” focus helped me plan meals, snacks, object lessons, topics of study, field trips, etc.  We covered character traits, colors, letters, shapes, community awareness, numbers, body parts, places, etc., using a letter a week as our umbrella.

Earlier this week, a dear friend commented that she’d been enjoying my blog and that she believes that the devotions God has been giving me are “going to be more…like a book or something.”  I don’t know how it will play out, but this morning, God brought this letter a week concept back to my mind.

Starting this coming week, I will be attempting at least 2 posts per week…a devotion for kids and one for adults…with this “letter a week” focus!  We will be traveling through the alphabet, focusing on a letter per week.  Each week, the devotional thought will be a word focus, based on that week’s letter.  The adult devotions are called “A to Z Devotions”, and the ones for children will be called “ABC Devotions.”

So far, God has shown me a few of the letters, but admittedly, many will come when it’s their week to shine!  For now, I have the “A words” bouncing through my mind!  Will you join me on this adventure?  Will you bring your kids and grandkids along on this journey through God’s Word?  Let’s hide His word in our hearts and in the hearts of the children we hold dear, and see where He wants to take us!

Feel free to “follow” this journey and ask friends and loved ones to do the same!  I’m not sure what God is about to give me, but I sure would like it to change more lives than just mine!

Lord, I thank you for this new adventure you are taking me on, into your Word!  I pray that you would open my mind and heart to say and share exactly what you lead me to!  I pray in advance for every reader!  Lord, bring the readers that you have chosen to be changed by these devotionals!  Open their hearts to your heart, that we each might be forever changed by the power of your Word!  In Jesus’ name, Amen!
